Game 1:
The Green Machine Nets Two In Front of a Packed Balcony
Mike Green scored his first 2 goals of the season versus Bridgton Academy on Friday night leading the way for a hard fought 3-1 victory. Tom Munichiello also netted a goal in the effort. The Advantage had a chance to play in front of a few hundred people and their new fan club. They certainly didn’t disappoint the crowd! The Advantage delivered a victory in their 43rd game of the season. Bridgton came out banging and played that way the whole game. However the Advantage countered by out skating Bridgton and that effort created scoring opportunities that the Green and Munichiello took advantage of. Eric McGuirk was solid between the pipes for the Advantage picking up his 18th win of the season. Mike Green was presented the game puck after the game by Timothy Lovell, Jr. That gives the Advantage a 24-18-1 recording heading into the match up on Saturday.
Game 2:
Solid Team Effort Ends in Tie
Andrew Wenstrom and the penalty killing units came up big during the last 6-7 minutes of the 3rd while Bridgton peppered them with shots while on the power play and with an extra attacker leading to a 2-2 tie. The Advantage never trailed tallying the first goal on a nice shot and follow up rebound goal by Jeong Choe in the 1st. Bridgton evened it up but not for too long. Al Royer scored his 13th goal of the season to recapture the lead for the Advantage. It wasn’t until late in the 3rd period and a few questionable calls that lead to a scoring opportunity for Bridgton on the power play and with a pulled goalie. The penalty killing units did a fantastic job but a 6 on 4 advantage finally paid off for Bridgton. Overtime was good up & down hockey for both. The Advantage had a couple of quality chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Overall the Advantage played a good strong game ending in a tie that gives the Advantage a 24-18-2 record and 44 games overall.
The Coaching staff spoke after both games and we are very pleased with the guys’ effort and results on the weekend. It’s been rewarding to see the guys come together as a team over the season as well as how every individual has developed their individual skills, hockey IQ, and ability to compete at a high level versus some of the top hockey the US has to offer.
Thanks to all of those who came to our games this weekend. We hope to see you all in the near future.
