| 07-08 Season Concludes With Team Banquet & Awards
Thanks to all of the guys, parents, siblings and coaches for participating in a night full of laughs, memories, highlights and achievements. It was a great event to close out what was a very successful & fun season. For the guys & coaches it was probably the 100th time they spent together eating as a group and sharing stories with each other. Last night was a great atmosphere to share our season's stories, laughs, achievement and highlights with our parents & siblings who supported us season long. Thanks to all of you who joined us. We thank you for our support throughout the year!
Scoring Award: Every team needs to rely on a few guys to carry the scoring load. Tommy Munichiello emerged as that guy for us. Tommy was our #1 center all season and our go to on the powerplay. He chipped in 17 goals and set up his teammates for 25 assists on the year for 42 points.
Most Improved: Our team's mission is development. We had a few candidates for this award but one individual stood out. Al Royer came to us as a defenseman but played forward for us all season. Al played on our most consistent line along with Collins & McGrath. Al played hard every shift but more importantly worked hard to learn how to score, scoring 14 goals, how to play his wing and how to play in the defensive end as a forward which is drastically different than what he was used to. Al took the constructive criticism to heart and became a staple in our lineup.
Most Valuable Player: The NHL's Hart Trophy has been awarded 82 times but only to 5 goalies. Being a young first year team goaltending was the most critical position we needed to fill and we needed to land a good one. Eric McGuirk's play allowed us to be in a position to win and he even won us a few. Without Eric we wouldn't have finished with the record that we did. Eric had a few bumps along the way but he always responded and it usually was versus a very good team. Eric developed into a fine goalie this season and was the team's most valuable player.
Coaches Award: Any other year this player would have been MVP. We needed a top end player, high end Dman, and a leader all wrapped up into one player. This was our 2nd morst critical need as a young first year team. Larry Bero is a special young man who was all of that for us and more. We were going to challenge Larry to be this guy for us but he stepped into the role before we could. Larry logged the most or second most minutes on the team. Larry would play a regular shift, take a 15 second break and then go kill a penalty or play on the PP. All of that is MVP caliber type numbers. But what set Larry apart was his character & leadership. Larry had a great deal to handle with this team and he was always reliable. As coaches you hear just about everything that goes on. What we would also hear is that Larry handled the situation, Larry challenged his team to play harder, Larry organized this, etc. Larry is a fantastic young man who is easy going, respectful, polite, hard working and team orientated who has developed into a strong defenseman & player.
Tim, Joe and I would like to thank all of you for the thoughful gifts you presented us with. It was completely unexpected and very well appreciated. Thank you very much!
Thanks for a great season! Good luck to the guys moving on next year. Tim, Joe and I appreciate what you did for us. |
